Invocation of the ancestors
This painting is about turning inside and coming home: connecting with the sacred space of your heart. The young Shaman focusses her full attention inside and invokes her ancestors, asking for their guidance by playing the flute and connecting to the eagle.
In different traditions the concept of the three selves is used. A differentiation is made between the Lower Self, Unconscious Mind or Body Mind, the Middle Self or Conscious Mind and the Higher Self / Higher Conscious Mind or Oversoul. In the Unconscious Self all genetic blueprints are stored, as well as all information from past lives, past generations and this life. Unconscious processes are directed from here. Our unconscious Self is always awake. Our conscious Self is our waking mind that analyses, determines, thinks, decides and controls. Our Higher Self is the doorway to universal knowledge: the knowledge of the Great Spirit, our guides, our soul-family, our ancestors and all beings of light.
In Shamanistic rituals this concept is used. Shamans connect to this knowledge by chanting, dancing,
Trance and plantmedicine: they become lucid. Through their own connection to their Higher Self they are able to connect to the lower and Higher self of the ones who seek help, or with the Great Spirit to guide them in big decisions.
But we can do this too. In that way we are all shamans. We can connect to our own higher Self in exactly the same way: inducing a trance by chanting, creating or listening to sound, drums, singing bowls; by meditating, being in nature or by dancing. When you turn inside and have a clear intention or question, you will receive the answers. In this way you can receive information that normally is blocked by your Conscious Mind. Your Higher Self knows your path, our Dharma, why you are here, what your chosen lessons are, how to overcome obstacles and how to manifest your dreams, using your gifts and talents.
The eagle as totem animal
The eagle is one of the biggest and most admired birds of prey. His wingspan can be 2.20 meters. This majestic bird represents the power of the Great Spirit. The eagle connects you to the Devine and is seen as a messenger from the ancestors.
The fact that the eagle can rise to enormous heights and at the same time is connected to the earth make him very special as a totem animal: his powers are both earthly and spiritual. The eagle invokes power, strength, beauty and independence, diamond sharpness, focus, connection to deeper knowing and transcendence. The eagle teaches us that we are in this world, but not of it.
Because the eagle rises to such enormous heights, he can oversee the totality of life. The eagle brings you the wisdom of the Great Spirit. He invites you to conquer your fears of the unknown, to spread your wings and fly above the daily level of your life. In this open space you have complete freedom of emotional and mental ties. He inspires all of us to be courageous and look at our past, present and future, to look at patterns of behavior and consequences, to look behind the obvious, to that which appears to be hidden. Without judgement. With a neutral mind. What do you se? Do you use your talents and gifts? Are you happy? Do you love, laugh and live enough? Do you realize your dreams? Is your heart open? Look what is needed. You have all you need to create your life in the most fulfilling way.
